A new education series hopes to help the community more deeply understand itself in relationship to animals.

Center Valley Animal Rescue has begun hosting “Talks in the Barn” with the goal of turning the events into a regular series.

“We’re hoping to provide interesting, educational topics to the public on various aspects of animal care that maybe they’re not aware of,” said Trinitie Vance, office manager for the rescue center.

The first talk was given by Center Valley founder Sara Penhallegon last Saturday on disaster preparedness for pets, with tips like keeping a picture of a pet around in case they get loose during a disaster, how to mark large pets if they have to be let go, and when letting them go is appropriate.

The next talk is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24 with Dr. Christine Parker Graham on aquatic medicine.

“A lot of people don’t realize that you can actually see a veterinarian for your fish,” Vance said.

The talks will be held in the covered barn on the property which is open on the sides, so organizers recommend dressing appropriately.

Center Valley Animal Rescue is also looking for another location to continue hosting the talks as the weather turns colder.
