A security training exercise is planned at Naval Magazine Indian Island through Friday, Nov. 18, the Navy announced last week.
Training activities will occur near the installation’s main gate and by the pier’s security barrier with boats on the water.
Training scenarios will include the use of blank ammunition, loud sirens, and bright blue flashing lights.
The Navy also said the main gate may be temporarily closed for a short period of time during the training, but the shutdown should have a minimal impact to traffic in the area.
Residents living in the communities surrounding Indian Island and people within the installation may notice increased noise levels and activities from the security drill. The base’s loudspeaker notification system will also be used to make announcements during the exercises.
Officials said the Navy conducts similar types of security exercises at installations around the world to maintain readiness and verify response procedures.
