Olympic National Park has increased the number of vehicles that can enter Hurricane Ridge from 315 to 345 per day.

The popular tourist destination reopened June 27, and the park announced more vehicles would be allowed entrance a week after Hurricane Ridge was opened.

Portable toilet capacity has been closely monitored and 30 more vehicles per day can be accommodated, according to Olympic National Park.

Park officials said the vehicle quota for the attraction had been reached as early as 10 a.m., and as late as 12:15 p.m., during the first week.

Wait times have ranged to no wait, up to 90 minutes.

Officials also noted the first week of operations at Hurricane Ridge did include a holiday weekend, which increased visitation numbers.  

Visitors to Hurricane Ridge are encouraged to arrive early in the morning to gain entry. The first 175 vehicles can enter without waiting, but the next 170 vehicles will experience wait times due to parking lot capacity.

After 345 vehicles have entered for the day, officials said the road will close to private vehicle traffic. 

Olympic Park officials also stressed the Clallam Transit shuttle to Hurricane Ridge has been operating six shuttles per day, and the shuttle picks up visitors from the Gateway Transit Center in Port Angeles.

The number of tourists visiting Hurricane Ridge has been limited by the park since the Hurricane Ridge Day Lodge burned down May 7 and the area was left without any utilities.

Portable toilets have been brought in, but the number of visitors has been capped because the facilities have limited capacity and must be serviced regularly.
