Jefferson County has a total of 233 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, Jefferson County health officials reported Monday, Jan. 4.
That's up from the 220 reported last Wednesday.
Jefferson County Public Health Officer Tom Locke told county commissioners at their COVID-19 update Monday that the surge of coronavirus cases nationwide has leveled off, but the country is averaging 212,000 new cases and 1,300 deaths a day.
"This is the worst it's been in the pandemic so far," Locke said.
"The worst part of the pandemic still lies head for us," he added.
Locke said 25 cases of coronavirus have been found in the county over the past two weeks.
Thirteen new cases were reported Jan. 4.
The new cases reported Monday in Jefferson County included six in Port Townsend, six in mid-county, and one in south county.
The south county case involved a woman in her 50s who tested positive for COVID-19.
In the mid-county area, those who tested positive were a woman over the age of 80, a woman in her 40s, a woman in her 60s, a man in his 60s, and two men in their 70s.
In Port Townsend, the new cases involved a woman in her 20s, a woman in her 30s, a woman in her 60s, a male under the age of 20, a man in his 30s, and a man in his 70s.
Jefferson County health officials reported Monday that 19 people with COVID-19 remain in isolation.
A total of 52 residents were still awaiting COVID-19 test results Monday.
County health officials reported Monday 194 residents in the county have recovered from COVID-19. A total of 19 residents have been hospitalized after getting the coronavirus, and one death in Jefferson County has been attributed to the disease since the start of the pandemic.
According to Jefferson County Public Health, a total of 15,792 tests have been administered for the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, and 15,507 tests have come back negative.
Through Monday, 110 COVID cases have been found in Port Townsend residents; 99 in mid-county residents; and 24 in south county (Quilcene, Brinnon, and West Jefferson).
A total of 118 females tested positive for COVID-19, and 115 males have also tested positive.
