The future of Port Townsend is at stake until we can grow the supply of affordable housing. Our city needs young professionals to run our schools, hospitals, government agencies, and businesses. Without housing, they won’t come. Without workers, our community will simply grow old among the darkened houses of wealthy second home owners.
City Council candidate Monica MickHager is the person who can lead the way. With her decade of experience as planning commissioner, she grasps the necessity of simplifying zoning. She knows the regulations that are holding up the expansion of the housing stock the city needs. She understands code and which facets of the municipal code can be modified to create a variety of rental and ownership opportunities.
Monica MickHager will engage the smart, earnest people of Port Townsend in the heavy lifting of good governance. City Council, by unquestioningly following the last city manager, has been complicit in questionable initiatives such as the Cherry Street project. Monica’s talents and collaborative leadership will leverage new possibilities so Port Townsend can accommodate the new neighbors we need, including the young people yearning to return to raise their families.
Please join me in casting your ballot for Monica MickHager.
