Mayor Stinson deserves our support

Posted

As Port Townsend business owners and managers for the past seven years we have found Deb Stinson to be active, involved, fair-minded, and a great public servant. Mayor Stinson works tirelessly to support and be involved in local functions. She is very informed, and strives to promote the best decisions for our community. Port Townsend is a better place because of her leadership and we will benefit by electing her for an additional term.

Hi Sheldon and Sandy. I'm Harvey. What I find most telling about Stinson support letters is that they are not specific about what great things Appointed Mayor and 2 term City Council Member Stinson has done, or they extoll doing the basics as though others could not do them as well. I have asked Stinson supporters to answer some of the things I point to in comments in the Leader to Stinson support letters over the last few weeks. There is silence. This is exactly the Stinson style. Silence. Sound of crickets. Nothing.

On the other hand I know from personal experience, and read and know now from letters to the editor this week and weeks past, many specific damaging effects of the Stinson administration. If it is her administration. At times the appointed mayor is described as there to chair Council Meetings and ride in parades, at other times such as this election she says she is a "Leader". Taking her at her campaign image she is fully responsible for the following according to many.

1) Short staffed Police.

2) Underpaid Police.

3) Roads in bad condition and the growing cost to maintain or repave as they continue to degrade.

4) No Animal Control.

5) Being unresponsive to the damaging effects of elimination of parking enforcement and deconstruction of the volunteer parking program. (5 years of photo documentation went unanswered) Leaders lead, they don't hide.

6) Having absolutely no parking plan in place for years, even after expensive studies.

7) The $600,000 Crooked Sidewalk/sculpture project that is a monument to no public input as to priority, and at the cost of other much needed items ignored in the budget or needed budget. We can all see STINSON'S FOLLY daily now.

8) The refusal to facilitate the Planning Commission reviewing laws and codes as they requested and were denied, related to the comprehensive plan.

(9 Not dealing with growing debt service without public input that hamstrings the ability to do needed basic projects, somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.7 million dollars per year.

10) What the Editor of the Leader described as a lack of public input during the formative time of selecting the new City Manager. Then, evasive and obstructive actions by Stinson and false claims of relevant law when he requested information after the job offer was accepted by the new City Manager. Open government. Who's against that along with Sheldon and Sandy and supporters of weeks past? They could speak up here as well.

And there's more. I do encourage anyone with first hand information to add to the list Sheldon and Sandy should be able to reply to in advising us to vote 2 term No Term Limit Council Member and Appointed Mayor Stinson another 4 years of the same. Sheldon and Sandy please clear up any misunderstanding. What an opportunity.

The absolute worst level of response from anyone anywhere I have ever had in the private sector or government is Stinson's (none, 0, zero). The asked for response was to customer access blockaded year after year by all day parkers in 2 hour zones, photo and text documentation regularly supplied to Stinson and Council , contrary to Municipal Code, meant to protect all. It was not dealt with at all. At all. Let me make this clear. Not at all. Not. Didn't happen. Silence. Mute. In Stinson's space no one can hear you scream.

This aspect is huge and missed by many. A changed culture was created by Stinson's "Leadership"of illegal parking all day in 2 hour spots. Me first and only. Screw you. There also still is and was outright discrimination against locals and visitors not knowing about non enforcement in Port Townsend. You guys obey the posted limit, you guys don't have to.

All of this is at the hands of a woman who has the gall to call herself a Leader, and wants to continue on. I don't know what business and location Sheldon and Sandy Spencer are in. I do invite them to answer numbers 1 through 10 above. Specifically, not in abstract general terms. I was also made aware today that the Stinson campaign signs leading into town with the recently added false claims were illegal and oversized. Someone had to file a complaint to get them into compliance. Isn't "Stinson knows policy" one of the claims I read? Stinson=train wreck. More than just in the ways listed here. Please do speak up if you can add more. The time for a change that will never come again is now, before Stinson and 18 year No Term Limit Council Member Sandoval start training him. Clean hands for him on day one. Dirty hands soon after without changes. Save Johnny from this fate.

So, Sheldon and Sandy, you want us all to hop on board your special Appointed Mayor Stinson train wreck? Educate everyone on exactly what you mean. Exactly. 1 through 10. You would be the first Stinson supporter not to go silent when asked to explain your broad generalized support.

Clarification, "The time for a change that will never come again is now, before Stinson and 18 year No Term Limit Council Member Sandoval start training him." Refers to the new City Manager John Mauro.

Here is a partial list of current "Stinson as Appointed Mayor" problems that have been identified in the Leader's comments and letters to editor in the last few weeks. Candidate Stinson claims Leadership qualities and could answer each of the following.

(5 years of photo documentation went unanswered)

6) Having absolutely no parking plan in place for years, even after expensive studies.

7) The $600,000 Crooked Sidewalk/sculpture project that is a monument to no public input as to priority, and at the cost of other much needed items ignored in the budget or needed budget.

Open government?

Paul Rice

Harvey, I'm not endorsing in this race, but I just have to tell you that I think you're doing more harm than good with your relentless attacks. You are unhinged and cruel, and more than a bit stalker-level creepy. My suggestion to you is that if you'd like to promote Monica for victory, that you do so by quickly shutting up.

Thanks for the input Paul, Until recently I was not supporting a specific candidate because I didn't want my style to be seen as negative to that campaign. I came to know it was OK to openly support Monica by gauging input. I am not affiliated with any campaign. Just ideas. My focus is getting Stinson and what she represents out. I alone own my words and thoughts.

Reality checks for all is a good idea. Abusers always want victims to be quiet. The other side of it is tell someone and keep telling until someone hears you. Many hear me or more importantly what I relay in the relentless style I have taken on for this task. In a way its a character. Some would say it takes character to step up. I do get feedback at my business as well. I have had some come in to purchase just to show support. If I lose anyone, I would rather do business with those I respect.

I really do just want to just run my business and mind my business. That was made extremely difficult due to the Appointed Mayor and her silence over the last 5 years as some rather nasty folk took over the streets. Do you have a stake in the game , Paul? Put your life and life savings out there and see if you would be more emphatic.

The 10 item list in comments goes unexplained and unanswered. I feel for the person who has chosen to take the power she has and used it, or not used it, as she has. Leadership is responsibility and communication. I don't know if she and supporters understand the damages done or not. Either way, the damages have to stop. They are well documented and well known.

My style in this forum is meant to be in your face and relentless. It is meant to spark conversations. I know it has. I do seek lots of feedback and input from lots of folks before and after I write comments or letters to Editor. I do know that the relentless style has put Term Limits and an Elected Mayor in the discussion.I have purposefully carpet bombed those terms, because they are representative of checks and balances that can help deter special interests. I hear echoes even in other letters to editor and comments of what I have put forth over the last few months, even from police representatives. The message stands independent of the messenger and style.

As I have explained to some, I am an icebreaker that others can work in the wake of once the solid ice of Stinson's denial and incompetence is broken up. Of course some won't like my "relentless" what you call attacks. I would call them relentless facts. They are never countered or shown to be false.

I have had some amazing support just this week by people I have great respect for. Of course anyone has self doubt stepping up and saying what so many think and know. My function is to say the truth, take some hits, and keep on saying the truth. You are actually the first "hit". But ii is about issues not me, isn't it? In your face sir, in your face. Others can make nice after.

I think the whole town has been stalked by a political machine that has lost its prime directive. That's the laws and codes that is the real City of Port Townsend. Or, as Orwell said "What counts is that we don't betray each other".

I am, along with others, Collateral Damage

I Googled Paul Rice Port Townsend. I feel everyone should know who everyone is. Are you the Paul Rice who works for Michelle Sandoval, 18 year City Council Member, past appointed Mayor and owner of Windermere in Port Townsend? A Paul Rice works for her. That Paul Rice is also a Planning Commissioner for the City of Port Townsend. You must not be that Paul Rice as you said you support no candidate, just concerned for Monica. I do know Michelle took exception to some political satire I sent out to Council, Police and booster organizations. It was not for public consumption. I know many enjoyed it. The Leader printed one I am basing my new ads on starting next week. No one is creepy stalking anyone. You coming at me the way you did is creepy. Please clear up who you are Paul. The way things appear can't be as it seems.

3 days and no clarification from Paul. Silence. Sound of crickets. Definitely a Stinson/Sandoval trademark. I can talk specifics with you about the 10 points listed twice here Paul. Silence is creepy. Hit and run Paul?

Tom Camfield

Attacking the messenger is not the coolest way to go. Paul is not required to show identification and credentials in order to present an opinion'.

I would leave it up to individual readers to decide who was attacked here Tom. The names I was called used were a first as far as I know for this forum. Being told to shut up in a discussion forum? I believe any thinking person can see what Paul Rice is doing and for who's benefit. Hit and run.

Hey Tom- this quote is from you on the story about what you saw as shaming the political cartoonist....."Can we listen to all residents, young, old, and in-between, without using tactics of shaming and silencing those with whom we disagree?" Paul sort of broke the bank with how he came at me and telling me to shut up. Yet you support him, even being anonymous. You shamed me when I felt it was important to know who he was to understand his motivation. Be consistent Tom. To avoid hearing your tribe oriented groupthink answer...… how to you think Trump looked today. Bait and switch.

HarveyW Facebook Collateral Damage

Paul Rice- When one can't engage in debate or give and take, one resorts to trashing on Facebook, or facilitation of trashing by less than insightful "friends". You posted and invited comment on your Facebook page where it is assumed Windermere customers of some intellect might also see what kind of folks you attract and hang with.

You are a representative of 18 year Council Member Michelle Sandoval who also avoids explanations and reasonable requests for solutions to damaging policy. The record on that is clear and well known. You are also apparently on the Planning Commission, so in a way you represent the values and style of the City of Port Townsend. Not the real one, the one your boss has taken part in hijacking.

The individuals you have mobilized to distort who and what I am are in fact many of the moderate income folks that the issues discussed in the Leader forum have a negative impact on, such as budgets being exhausted on curb appeal projects such as the current $600,000 sculpture park project done without public input. The debt service of 1.7 million dollars your boss was part of incurring as senior Council member handicaps the ability to put money towards moderate income housing through REET, Real Estate Excise Tax as that money is needed for the debt your boss and others incurred on the public's behalf without public input for most of it.

Your "friends" are unaware what they are rallying around. They act like screaming chimps hurling feces of their own making at a constructed effigy of me. The cartoon you have made public was sent to policy makers only, to illustrate in a way words can't your role as lap dog to Sandoval in trying to "quickly shut up" my comments with facts you can't argue in a discussion forum you apparently don't have the tools to participate in.

The political cartoon of Patsy and Mikki is understood by many. It is displayed in my windows and in paid for Leader ads. There are new ones this week. The subject is different. I hope you can understand the content.

I readers are inclined to, go to Michelle Sandoval's employee Paul Rice's facebook page and see what he is orchestrating as those that relate to him feed off each other and construct a "me" that doesn't exist, even to the level of linking me to Trump and much more, with no basis at all. Of course chronic parking hogs weigh in claiming I scream at everyone.

Windermere national will be thrilled to see what one of their owners and agents is up to. The portrayal of you as a Chiwawa attack dog seems to be proving not far from the truth. Those flinging feces and devoid of any substance at all only end up with feces on themselves, knowing it or not.

I can't imagine Windermere clients being represented by yourself and those you attract to you will think. I do see you as a prefect person to be groomed for future Council and possibly appointed Mayor, as the satiric cartoon illustrated. Any thoughts Paul? This is forwarded to Michelle Sandoval and the No Term Limit Council.

Do you like Tom Petty? You can stand me up at the gates of Hell, but I won't back down. Truth is truth. Fact is fact. Attack Chiwawas are......on Facebook. Gotta go get in touch with Windermere national and some others.
