It’s unfortunate that the Leader doesn’t review theater anymore, because our community is in possession of a world-class gem.
In lieu of an official Arts and Entertainment review, I’d like to submit the following: “The People Downstairs” by Natalie Symon, a West Coast premier, is a sterling example of theater’s collaborative greatness.
The writing is smart, touching, funny, and insightful, as is the acting and directing, and the “world” created for this action is awe-inspiring. Watching it was so immersive and uplifting, even (and especially) given the subject matter — loneliness and love and the quixotic beauty that emerges from strange and lovely circumstances.
I would like to encourage everyone to attend this heart-swelling and humorous exploit. It’ll make your day, your evening, your weekend! And, I believe it will renew your faith in the collaborative arts, which are ours to enjoy, to participate with, and to support.
