The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 198 calls for service between Saturday, Jan. 15 and Friday, Jan. 21. Below are selected reports.
At 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16 in Port Ludlow, an elderly woman said someone outside was “shooting a light around my house.”
She said there were floodlights on her front door, and she heard a sound that sounded like thumping. She did not see anyone outside, but was concerned for her safety. A deputy searched the area and did not find any signs of recent activity. When the deputy approached the home, the woman inside shined a flashlight on the officer.
The woman pointed out a neighbor’s house and said their lights had come on and off, but suggested the lights might be set to automatically come on since the neighbors are not usually home.
When asked about her well-being, the woman said she felt well and “didn’t feel anything coming on.”
A search of the area found no suspicious activity.
At 10:06 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 in Port Hadlock, a caller reported a suspicious man and woman who were on the deck of a home. The pair had been seen earlier at a nearby home.
The couple had gone to Irondale Park, the caller said, and they had a pit bull and another dog with them.
The caller was unsure why they had been on the deck, but didn’t think they had tried to get inside.
A deputy found the pair in the park, where they were scrounging for cigarette butts.
They were given a trespass warning for three different addresses where they had been seen.
The couple were believed to be homeless, with substance-abuse issues. They were given information on how to contact a Navigator for guidance.
At 12:52 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18 in Port Hadlock, a resident who had been storing items in an RV reported items that had gone missing.
A deputy responded and talked to the theft victim, who said an unknown person had entered the RV and stolen small, camping-style propane canisters and outer camping equipment. A large, crystal-like lamp was also taken.
The total loss was estimated at $75.
