I am a mentor in the YMCA's Building Futures Program. This is my first year participating.
I became involved because I wanted to contribute to the good of this community, and providing any kind of positive support for children seemed an effective way to do that.
Devoting only one hour a week is very little time and effort for the large return. A pamphlet from the Y explained the program's outstanding success.
I doubted my ability to add anything truly significant to this endeavor, but with the encouragement from the program’s enthusiastic coordinator, Dana Nixon, I decided to join.
So far, I have enjoyed being a mentor and feel happy to be apart of Building Futures.
Special thanks to Dana Nixon for her optimism, compassion and patience.
