Thank you to the Port Townsend Leader for clearly written articles on the caucus and PCO election procedures of the Jefferson County Democrats.
To help update: The party rules set forth in bylaws, linked on their website, dictate that the top four leadership positions are chosen by the elected PCOs.
It has been done this way in all previous elections and is not new. It is also in the Washington State Democratic Party bylaws.
The reorganized executive board of 12 elected Dec. 4 includes five previous board members. Newly elected members were supporters of Sanders, who won over 71 percent in our March caucuses – a win preceded by 11 months of organizing beginning April 2015 with more than 35 public events and a rally with Larry Cohen, former [Communications Workers of America] president and present lead of “Our Revolution” (also in PT Leader).
The Jefferson Sanders’ Facebook group/page, also begun April 2015, numbers 989 members/followers.
The eventual nominee’s supporters began organizing here Jan. 26, 2016 with a Facebook page of 80 members that lists one event, Feb. 17, 2016.
There are some unhappy to have lost at reorg.
But those who are strong Democrats understand the importance of unity and accepting the results that have helped bring more democracy and youth into our party.
Close to 250 new members in Jefferson have joined since the Sanders campaign began. Their active participation is welcomed.
