Regarding Chris Tucker’s Aug. 23 article on the development of an “artisan village district.”
Know Port Townsend will grow. Know there is truth to the “If you build it, they will come” philosophy.
Before planners and developers put that philosophy to work, the town must ask and answer the questions “Is this something the town needs and/or wants?”
The character of this town exists because of a mix of a century of unfortunate economic factors and a half a century of good people fighting to keep its unique identity. Don’t mess it up.
And if something gets built on Howard Street at Discovery Road, for the sake of everything decent, don’t call it “Town Center.” There is nothing “center” about it. Give it a name it deserves.
Maybe “Howard, Be Thy Name.”
