My solidarity was sold for the price of a union contract. U.S. Steel Workers Union Local 175 and USW International have colluded for monetary gain.
And they have discriminated against their own members by putting forth a contract proposal for a ratification vote that monetarily rewarded the majority of the voting members. They pitted the tour workers against the day workers. And the ramifications from this decision have yet to be completely played out at Port Townsend Paper Corp.
Union officials called both proposals a “shit sandwich” and strongly recommended that the body vote for both of them, ensuring that dues monies continue to follow to both the international and the local.
I am a longtime union member and I am disgruntled and ashamed to call myself a USW union member.
