LETTER: Please stop speeding on Fir Street

Posted

About three days before Christmas, my cat was hit by a car on Fir Street.

This cat had always exhibited a healthy fear of cars and would always bolt back within our fence when one passed.

A notable thing about this street is the amount of speeding on it. As with almost all residential areas, the speed limit is 25 mph, yet being a long, straight street with many of its houses concealed by shrubs or trees, it is subject to speeders daily.

There is also almost no cross traffic, so people feel they can go as fast as they want.

Speeding is very concerning on this street as many pedestrians use it, and it has no shoulder or sidewalk. Students use this street to go to school. Elderly people also use it.

This incident could easily have occurred with a child rather than a cat. My cat sustained multiple pelvic fractures and a puncture in her hip and will have to be confined to a cage for three months in order to heal.

So please be considerate to those children, elderly and pets on Fir Street and don’t speed.
