LETTER: Living life in the slow lane is lovely

I have been wondering why everyone seems to be in such a big hurry lately.

Cars have passed me when I am observing the speed limit in downtown Port Townsend leaving the Rose Theatre on a busy two-way street.

This community is a small town with a respect for bikers and walkers alike. Likewise, when we drive we need to be more respectful of one another when we are going the 25 miles an hour in designated areas. This is not a big city like Los Angeles or even Bend, Oregon.

When I am walking with my dog each morning, I take notice of how many drivers are speeding down Cook Avenue and wonder why that kind of speed is necessary on a quiet, lovely stretch of land bordering many homes, with walkers, dogs and, of course, deer.

Our lives here are in the slow lane. That is why most of us moved here, to leave the hurried, stressful lifestyles. After rushing most of my life to get to my teaching job, I do not see the need or desire to rush again and not take the time to see what lies in front of me.
