LETTER: Let’s hear birds, not gunfire on the bay

Twenty years ago, we built our home along Discovery Bay because we love the quietness of the woods and the water.

However, in 2005 there was a dramatic increase in weapons firing noise, which sounded like it was coming from the security business located across Discovery Bay from our home. At that time, we joined with our neighbors to petition the county to end this unreasonable public nuisance noise.

Finally, in 2009, after a lengthy process, a hearings examiner concluded that weapons training be restricted to their own onsite employees.

Unfortunately, we believe that has been violated on many occasions, and violations are continuing. There are afternoons that the primary sound in our garden is gunfire, not birdsong, destroying the peace and repose of our home.

Therefore, we support the citizens who are petitioning the Jefferson County commissioners asking that the commissioners uphold the decision.
