With spring come the snowdrops, the crocus, the daffodils and unfortunately something else that seems to be blossoming along Port Townsend paths and sidewalks: dog poop.

I have been walking regularly throughout the winter, and Port Townsend is a pretty clean town most of the time. Sure, there is construction trash after a windstorm, and some junk food litter and a regular accent of filled dog poop bags abandoned by the presumably well-meaning dog owner. But mostly pretty nice.

This spring seems to have brought out either a bounty of unleashed dogs doing their business, or more dog owners are unwilling to scoop and bag in this windy, wet weather. This past week or two, my walks along Discovery, up F Street and on non-motorized trails around town have been especially hazardous.

Please be a responsible dog owner and help the rest of us keep our shoes free of dog feces.
