LETTER: Housing issue: We need to do our share

Is there a shortage of affordable housing, either owned or rented, in Jefferson County? Of course there is, and most of us know it.

So, what do we, the people of Jefferson County, do to help our struggling families to have housing that is safe, healthy and affordable?

We have nonprofits doing all they can do, and there is dwindling, and currently imperiled, federal assistance, and our state government plays an important role.

But ultimately, we in Jefferson County need to do our share. That is why the proposed county housing levy for 36 cents per $1,000 assessed property value for the November ballot is so important for all us to support.
