I look around me and see women and men and children smiling at me – in the grocery store, at the movies, at Fort Worden and even when I am walking my dog.
After a bitter, difficult election season, it’s now my favorite celebration: Thanksgiving. There is something sacred about remembering the first Thanksgiving and the food shared and the struggle of Native Americans and the Pilgrims learning from one another in spite of cultural differences.
This fall, I am giving thanks for the Food Bank, the Winter Shelter, the Humane Society, the many acts of kindness and generosity that friends have shown me, as well as strangers taking time to lend a helping hand. I give thanks for the musicians in the Port Townsend Community Orchestra who perform four wonderful concerts to enrich our lives with music.
So to each of you who live and thrive here and remain. I send blessings for a better, sweeter, healthier, peaceful year.
