LETTER: A great turnout for Kitchen Tour

The 19th annual AAUW/UWF Kitchen Tour, “Kitchens – Port Townsend Style,” was a fantastic success that could not have happened without the support of our entire community,

generous homeowners, and the wonderful volunteers who stepped in to support educational programs and scholarships in East Jefferson County. A big thank-you!

The spectacular weather on April 30 was certainly a bonus. Tour-goers arrived from surrounding communities, including Port Angeles, Sequim, Gig Harbor, Edmonds, Seattle and a number of visitors from out of state.

More than 500 tickets were sold for admission, which covered visits to eight beautiful homes, a seminar held by The Kitchen and Bath Studio, and a hospitality center provided by the First Presbyterian Church.

AAUW members, along with a number of local businesses, provided a delicious array of complimentary refreshments. Local businesses sold tickets, sponsored advertisements in the tour passport, and donated money and raffle items. AAUW Port Townsend volunteers worked long hours to plan and staff the event. Newspapers, such as this one, community websites and community newsletters spread the word to publicize the tour. Proceeds from this annual event fund college scholarships for local high school girls. Also funded are Career Days and Tech Trek for eighth-graders, and projects including kindergarten phonics, third- grade math and kindergarten literacy. These projects not only require the financial support of the Kitchen Tour – through AAUW Port Townsend and its University Women’s Foundation of Jefferson County, a 501(c)(3) organization – but also require

countless hours of leadership and volunteer time from AAUW Port Townsend members and others. This is a great time to thank them for their wonderful work, as well. For more information about AAUW Port Townsend and its projects, visit

aauwpt.org.

Again, we thank the community, our supportive press and our volunteers for another great year.
