I am appalled to learn of the verbal mistreatment of people living in my neighborhood, Cape George.

The victims of abuse are artists. As far as I know, their only crime is: looking different.

They are not rowdy or noisy or rule-breakers. They did hold a one-week workshop that involved parking extra cars in their lot which, for some reason, a few people may have found upsetting. It didn’t bother me.

I think most of my neighbors would also be appalled to learn of the hate speech directed, by a very few, at other neighbors.

Generally Cape George is a warm, welcoming, and enlightened place. Sadly, the victims no longer feel comfortable here, and are planning to move.

I have a better solution. Why don’t the judgmental, Puritanical, uncivil people move away and leave the rest of us to live in peace, harmony, and respect for each other.

I commented on this when the original letter was printed last week or so.

This sounds very strange to me. Artists and different looking people are not unusual in Port Townsend/Jefferson county; they are the norm! Artists, writers, performers of all sorts, hippies-young and old- and just unique souls of any quirky sort you can come up with reside all over the place here.

Any behavior like you mention here is surely not widespread as the quirky ones are in the majority here. There's always one, I suppose.

Everyone here knows how quirky P.T. is-that's one of the main reasons P.T. is what it is.

And it's a great town.

The instigator sounds like a grump!

Don't let it get to you, ignore them, and go about your day.
