KPTZ-FM holds its first Party on the Pier, featuring Seattle-based Funk Force Attacks along with local DJ Silace Amaro, starting at 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 1 on Union Wharf at the end of Taylor Street in downtown Port Townsend.
Funk Force Attacks features Alex Dugdale on saxophone; Max Holmberg, drums; and Joe Doria, organ. Those musicians are joined by a guitarist and a full horn section.
“I’ve had the pleasure of tuning into KPTZ for a few years now, ever since I started working with Centrum, and it’s truly a priceless community asset,” Dugdale said. “Not only because of the quality of the programming, but because the DJs, staff and volunteers are so passionate about the station.”
The event also features a beer and wine garden for those ages 21 and older. Admission is by a suggested $10 donation per person. In between band sets, DJ Silace Amaro spins rare, all-vinyl, funk music.
Dugdale, a 2017 Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award nominee, also is a tap dancer and was invited to serve as the coordinator of the Educator Track program for Centrum’s 2017 Jazz Port Townsend workshop and festival.
