KCPT Teen Initiative Presents: AIRNESS

Posted by boxoffice@keycitypublictheatre.org

Key City Public Theatre’s Summer programming kicks off with a rockin’ good time in AIRNESS by Chelsea Marcantel with their Annual Teen Initiative: When Nina enters her first air guitar competition, she thinks winning will be easy. But as she befriends a group of charismatic nerds all committed to becoming the next champion, she discovers that there's more to this art form than playing pretend; it's about finding yourself in your favorite songs, and performing with raw joy. Will Nina be able to let go and set herself free onstage? Jam-packed with a medley of tunes from the hair banging 80’s to 90’s metal and beyond, these teens are ready to take KCPT’s stage by storm for two fun-filled weekends!

Each year, the Teen Initiative provides unique, immersive theatre production opportunities for students ages 13 to 19. The youth team, mentored by Key City’s professional artists and staff, produces the entire show, from set and costume designs to stage management and publicity. This program is free for all students to participate thanks to generous KCPT patrons who raise paddles each year to fully fund the initiative.

The show features many Teen Initiative returning students from last year’s hit play, SHE KILLS MONSTERS by Qui Nguyen including: Quilcene’s Anna Munn, Port Townsend’s Ben Shafer & Destini Rojas. Jay Soper-Serkowski and Ruby Groussman co-direct this music-filled comedy. Newcomers to the Teen Initiative (but not to KCPT’s robust education programs) include: CJ Fisher, Frances Lynch, Willa Wayland, and Millie O’Neill.

Whether this was your era of music or whether this music is new to you now, this play will delight audiences from pre-teen to forever teen.
