The Port Townsend Public Library gets by with a little help from our Friends — actually, it gets by with a lot of help from our Friends!
Established in 1978 our Friends of the Port Townsend Library members have provided funding to our library that the city’s budget does not cover. Since 2013 we have made an average contribution of more than $20,000 each year. This helps to fund programs and events for every age and demographic in our community, including the very popular Take-and-Make Craft Kits for kids, teens, and adults. The Summer Reading Program has been enjoyed by community members of all ages for years. And then there is the Unusual Items to Borrow Collection that we have helped to fund which has an array of unique items: cake pans, a bear canister for a one-off backpacking trip, a voltage tester, telescope, gas leak detector, a pickleball set, snowshoes, and a Discover Pass for use in our state parks.
This is National Friends of the Library Week. What better time could there be to become a Friend of the PT Library? We are always looking for new members and volunteers. And we have a lot of fun while working to make our community better.
Joining the Friends is a terrific way to make new friends of your own, to give back to our town, and to make our library even better, and it’s easy to join, just log on to friendsofptlibrary.org and click “Join.”
