John Richard Hess, of Irondale, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on July 5, 2018. He was 84.
He was born October 27, 1933 in Indiana. John served four years in the U.S. Navy, which brought him to Washington where he started a family. He enjoyed music, especially country and bluegrass. He was a talented singer, guitar and banjo player. He loved hosting karaoke parties for family and friends. Other hobbies included camping, clam digging, bowling and fishing.
He worked for Jefferson County on the crews for many years until his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Janet Hess of Irondale; son Rick Hess (Stacy) of Marysville; daughter Vicky (Doug) of Port Hadlock; step-son Chris Hobbs of Sedro-Woolley; six granddaughters; one grandson and three great-grandsons. He also leaves behind his sister Geri Hughes of Indianapolis, IN.
An informal backyard barbecue was held to honor his life. There were no services at his request.
