The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 238 calls for service between Friday, Nov. 18 and Friday, Nov 25. Below are selected reports.

At 4:06 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 in Port Hadlock, a caller reported a burglary at a storage unit and items had been taken.

The caller said it appeared the unit had been entered about a month earlier, and said the break-in may be related to another burglary in the recent past.

The caller will make a list of the missing items.

At 5:56 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 in Port Hadlock, a resident reported a neighbor who was getting scammed.

The caller said the neighbor had been asked to get gift cards and share the numbers with someone who had called, and the neighbor was on the way to go buy more gift cards.

Authorities learned the fraud victim had already provided the scammer with gift card numbers, and had thought he had been on the phone with someone from Amazon.

The scammer also had told the neighbor to install software on his computer, which he had done.

The fraud victim was advised to unplug his computer and take it to a local shop for analysis. He was also told to contact his credit card companies.

At 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20 in Forks, a deputy was stopped by hunters who had found the site of an operation that was stealing cedar wood.

Multiple locations were found, and a report will be forwarded to the Department of Natural Resources after additional sites are checked.

At 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21 in Port Ludlow, a resident said a neighbor’s dog had gotten into a fight with the caller’s dog during a walk on the beach in Paradise Bay.

The caller said he had his dog on a leash, but the neighbor’s dog attacked his dog.

He said he didn’t want to report the incident, but the neighbor had brought him a vet bill and he wanted advice on what to do. He also said he wanted to report the incident before the neighbor did.

An animal control officer will contact the dog owners.

At 3:46 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 in Quilcene, a caller reported a possible burglary in progress. The caller said a suspicious white vehicle was parked in front of a residence and the back door was open.

A deputy discovered the unit was actually empty and no one was living there. There was no evidence that anyone had been inside.

It was determined that no crime had occurred.
