Jefferson County Sheriff's Log | When a tweaker calls

Posted

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 243 calls for service between Saturday, Feb. 26 and Friday, March 4. Below are selected reports.

At 7:19 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 in Port Ludlow, a caller from out of state was worried about her 90-year-old mother.

Her mother was scammed out of more than $20,000, she said, but was in denial.

Someone had called her mother and convinced her to buy $7,000 in gift cards, and then said they would come over to her home to get the cards between 8 and 9 a.m.

The caller was worried about her mother’s safety.

A deputy spoke to the mother and the daughter, and they were told to contact the FBI through its fraud hotline. The deputy also said the scammer had no reason to visit, since they already had the numbers off of the gift cards.

The were told to call 911 if a stranger came to the home. They were also advised how to avoid future problems with fraud and how to identify potential scams.

At 8:05 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 in Port Hadlock, a vehicle was prowled. Approximately 20 pills were missing from a prescription bottle for lorazepam.

Video footage was being collected from the time of the incident.

At 10:32 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 in Port Ludlow, a man said he did not feel safe in his home.

He said there was a woman at his father’s house and he had invited her to come over. He said she wouldn’t stop filming him. Dispatchers could hear a woman in the background.

The caller said the woman had attacked his girlfriend in the past.

Multiple people started talking over each other on the call, and the phone then went dead.

A dispatcher got a busy signal when they tried to call back.

A deputy responded and talked to the caller. He said everyone had left and he didn’t need any help.

A deputy determined no crime had been committed.

At 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27 in Port Hadlock, a caller who had kids at home reported seeing a strange man knocking on the front door via a ring camera.

The man appeared to be “tweaking,” the caller said.

Deputies checked the area but did not find the man.

At 12:35 p.m. Monday, Feb. 28 in Port Ludlow, a caller said someone had broken a window overnight and took jewelry that was in the home.

The homeowner was in the process of moving and was not sure what else was missing.

The caller said they would check to see what else was gone.
