Jefferson County Sheriff's Log | Smoke 'em out

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 278 calls for service between Friday, Nov. 4 and Friday, Nov. 11. Below are selected reports.

At 9:58 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 in Port Ludlow, a caller said his neighbor was threatening him.

It’s an ongoing issue in the neighborhood.

The caller said the woman swore and yelled at him because of his wood stove. The woman then called the man’s wife that morning and yelled and swore at her.

The man said she had told him that she hopes he dies.

The neighbor was angry that smoke from the wood stove periodically gets into her house and she does not like it.

She demanded that he somehow deflect the smoke so it does not come in her direction.

A deputy determined that no crime had been committed, and was so far just a lot of foul language and hateful comments.

The man was told he could get an anti-harassment order from the court if he felt like it was needed.

At 11:13 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10 in Port Ludlow, a man said his boat was stolen from his driveway.

The theft had happened three minutes earlier.

A blonde man in a white pickup with black trim was seen taking the boat and heading toward the Coyle.

The caller said he didn’t recognize the truck or the driver, and didn’t know anyone who would just roll up and away with his boat.

It was described as a 16-foot aluminum boat, and the owner said he had just put a new outboard motor on it. It was valued between $15,000 and $20,000.

Dispatchers received a subsequent call and a woman could be heard on the line screaming and saying, “No! Don’t hit me!” The sound of someone leaving could be heard and then the line disconnected.

Dispatch tried to call back but no one picked up the phone.

A deputy responding to take a report of the stolen boat was distracted when a speeding vehicle passed the deputy on Highway 104 at roughly
80 mph, headed toward the Hood Canal Bridge.

The vehicle was described as a black, four-door Saturn.

Kitsap County deputies and the Washington State Patrol was notified.

Deputies received the OK to deploy spike strips but they were not used as the fleeing vehicle got near the bridge but found it open for boat traffic. The driver fled onto Shine Road, then Teal Lake Road, Paradise Bay Road, and Egg and I Road.

Someone at the visitor’s center near Highway 104 reported seeing the Saturn.

Meanwhile, a deputy visiting the place were the 911 call had been made found the concern of a domestic violence incident was unfounded.

After a person on the property consented to a search, the stolen boat was found in the back yard, along with a white Chevy 1-ton truck that had been stolen, as well as a stolen motorcycle.

Deputies determined the thief had taken the boat, dropped it off, then got into the Saturn to flee the area.
