Jefferson County Sheriff's Log | Maybe it was the meth

Posted

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 278 calls for service between Friday, Nov. 4 and Friday, Nov. 11. Below are selected reports.

At 1:32 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 in Quilcene, employees with Jefferson County Public Works reported damage to a portable traffic sign.

The electronic reader-board had been damaged and items had been stolen from its trailer.

There are no suspects.

At 9:57 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 in Chimacum, a caller returned home to find the residence had been “trashed” during a burglary.

The caller said the front door had been unlocked while the caller had been gone for six hours.

Household items were taken, including jewelry, a camera, laptop, cutlery, a television, and a native octagonal drum.

At 11:58 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 in Nordland, someone at Smitty’s Island Retreat RV Park reported someone who shouldn’t be there.

The name of the unwanted person was reported. He had been staying the night at the residence over the past few nights, off and on, and now the woman wanted the man to leave.

He told a deputy he would leave, even though he had a garage full of his personal property at the location. He also admitted to using methamphetamine the last three days and wanted help on finding a new place to live.

Both parties were given information on resources that may help and the man departed the scene.

At 12:09 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 in Port Hadlock, a caller wanted action taken against a contractor who had been hired by the caller.

The caller said he hired the contractor last January for work in Clallam County and had heard the same company was working in Jefferson County.

The caller said he lived in Clallam County and was trying to gather as much information as possible so a criminal fraud case could be pursued.

The caller was advised about the limits of Jefferson County’s jurisdiction, and the man said he would have the victim in Jefferson County call authorities while he continued to pursue a case in Clallam County.

At 1:31 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 in Chimacum, a caller wanted to talk about a fraud case with a contractor who had been hired. The caller said the contractor had lost his business license and the caller was concerned the contractor was cheating people out of money without doing the work.

The caller added that he had called the business asking for the return of a deposit of $4,877.

The caller was told there was not enough evidence at this point to constitute a crime, and the matter could eventually be handled as a civil or criminal case depending on what actions were taken by the contractor.

At 3:02 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 in Port Hadlock, a caller reported a case of animal abuse.

A brindle pit bull mix was tied up outside and the anonymous caller was concerned about the dog being exposed to the cold.

It was unknown if the dog had been left out overnight.

An animal control officer searched the area in the morning, and was unable to find a dog that had been left outside.
