Jefferson County Sheriff's Log | 'Girl who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest'

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received 266 calls for service between Saturday, April 8 and Friday, April 14. Below are selected reports.

At 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 in Port Ludlow, a resident reported the theft of a package that had been left on a porch by an Amazon driver.

The package had merchandise valued at $20.

At 12:31 p.m. Thursday, April 13 in Quilcene, emergency dispatchers were called about a man who was making threats.

The caller said the man was trying to make a name for himself and make sure he would end up on the news. The threats came in response to a text requesting the results of a DNA result, and the man who made the threats said “the trail of bodies will be enough.”

The call was linked to an anonymous complaint made on a Crimestoppers line for the FBI.

A deputy contacted the alleged suspect and determined the man’s comment was taken out of context. The man was given contact information for the FBI and the man said he would contact the agency.

At 5:06 p.m. Thursday, April 13 in Port Townsend, police were called to the homeless camp on Mill Road after a visitor to the camp was walked off the property.

The man did not leave the area but stayed on the side of the road by the camp.

The caller said he was yelling at everyone and was threatening to shoot the staff. He said was going to come back with a gun, but it was unknown if the man was armed or had access to a weapon.

The staff wanted the man trespassed from the property. The caller said the man’s mother lives in the camp, and that’s why he keeps returning. A deputy checked the area but could not find the man.

A few hours later, the sheriff’s office was contacted again because the man had returned.

He was told he could not be there, but he said he was there to see his mother and refused to leave.

Deputies and Port Townsend police responded. The man resisted arrest, and two other people — the man’s mother and another person at the camp — were uncooperative as law enforcement tried to resolve the dispute.

Police told the man he would be detained for criminal trespassing, and the man started to tell officers that they didn’t know anything.

Two police officers tried to place handcuffs on the man, but as he started to resist, officers took him to the ground and held him until deputies arrived.

Deputies took custody of the man after he was arrested for criminal trespassing and resisting arrest. He was booked into jail without incident.

At 6:50 p.m. Friday, April 14 in Port Hadlock, a woman said a man had left a book in her mailbox.

She said he also left behind a toy car, cigarettes, and a drink coaster. The book was titled “Girl who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest” and the woman said she thought the man who left it was sending a threatening message.

The woman said she had earlier kicked the man out of the house. She also said she did not see him leave the items in the mailbox, but he had a history of leaving things in her mailbox.

She noted she has an existing restraining order against the man, and wanted the incident documented.

The woman asked for additional patrols in the area.
