Port Townsend, Oct. 17, 2023 — The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners has announced the release of its 2024-2028 Strategic Plan, outlining the county's vision and priorities for the next five years. In a news release, the board described it as “an ambitious plan to ensure a community in which people can live, work and learn” and said it proves the board’s commitment to creating a thriving, resilient, and inclusive community. “The plan is built upon extensive research, community input, and illustrates a shared vision for the future of Jefferson County. With six strategic priorities, this plan will pave the way for growth, development, and innovation over the next four years.”

Jefferson County's six strategic priorities for 2024-2028 are:

1. Community Resilience: Offer a dynamic and equitable array of health and safety services to enhance livability in our county.

 2. Economic Vitality: Support and promote a dynamic regional economy that creates opportunities for prosperity for all the people and businesses of our county.

3. Environmental Stewardship: Build climate resilience while protecting and preserving our natural areas and resources and improve access to shared natural spaces to enhance the experience of county residents.

4. Housing Accessibility: Improve the availability of and access to affordable and workforce housing throughout the county.

5. Organizational Health: Implement flexible, creative, and diverse methods of attracting, training, retaining, and communicating with our workforce so that people feel valued and recognized.

6. Thriving People: Promote a sense of belonging so that residents and visitors feel welcomed to share in the many activities, opportunities, and experiences available across Jefferson County.

Commissioner Heidi Eisenhour said, "This strategic plan represents our collective vision for a prosperous and inclusive future in this place we call home. We are committed to working to turn these priorities into meaningful actions and results for the residents of Jefferson County."

The board says the success of the plan will depend on community involvement and encouraged residents to participate in its execution. Community engagement sessions, updates, and opportunities to get involved will be available through the county website and social media channels.
