A bike lane and pedestrian path will be added to the east shoulder of Highway 19 in Chimacum between HJ Carroll Park and Fern Way.
Jefferson County commissioners approved the project at its meeting last week.
The path and bike lane will be built within the Highway 19 right of way, and will connect to the existing perimeter trail in the park.
The project is expected to cost $498,853 to design and build.
The county has received grant funding for the project from the Federal Highways Administration, and officials said the $109,907 in grant monies will pay for 86.5 percent of the design phase.
The rest of the costs of design will come from the Jefferson County Road Fund.
Officials said Jefferson County Public Works has applied for a Safe Routes to School grant to pay for the construction costs.
