Jefferson County District Court Judge Mindy Walker has announced she will run for a second term.
Walker first took the bench in 2019 and is currently presiding judge, handling traffic infractions, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor criminal matters, Behavioral Health Court, and civil cases.
“My dedication to serving is founded on my commitment to demonstrating fairness, impartiality, and integrity in the justice system,” Walker said in her announcement.
“My work on the district court bench has been a privilege and a pleasure,” she added. “I would ask that my constituents look at my record and consider re-electing me in order to maintain the consistency and forward movement I believe my staff and I can provide.”
Walker noted that one example of her success is the district court’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. She said she worked hard to keep the court open, and proceedings are now held on Zoom for most types of hearings, and having proceedings live-streamed on YouTube allows better access to the public, greater transparency, and more comprehensive interpretation services.
If re-elected, Walker vowed to continue to be “a fair and hardworking judge.”
Walker, 45, lives in Port Ludlow. She is married and has two children.
She is a 2000 graduate of Trinity College. In 2006, she graduated from Gonzaga School of Law.
Before starting her law career, she was a wildland firefighter.
Before her election in 2019, she was a partner in a successful law practice in Jefferson County and much time was dedicated to providing legal services to businesses, families, children, and the elderly.
Her community work includes service on several charitable boards and as an active international relief worker.
She is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, Jefferson County Bar Association, and the National Association of Women Judges. Walker also serves on the board of directors for the District and Municipal Court Judges Association, and is on the Diversity Committee and Therapeutic Court Committee.
