The works of twenty artists from Port Townsend, Port Ludlow, Chimacum and Nordland have been selected for display in the 14th annual CVG Show.

The exhibit is a statewide juried art competition, presented annually by Collective Visions Gallery in Bremerton.

This year’s edition features 295 artists from 53 cities throughout Washington.

Michael D’Alessandro, the former executive director of Northwind Arts Center who is now exhibits director for Northwind Art, was the show’s juror. He has a master of fine arts degree from Naropa University with expertise design, art history, and creative writing.

The show features three categories: two-dimensional art, three-dimensional art, and photo/digital Art.

Organizers said the competition is one of the largest and most prestigious art competitions in the Northwest, with more than $9,000 in cash and purchase awards, and just getting accepted into the show is an honor.

“The large number of entrants ensured that this year’s juror had artwork by top quality artists from all over the state from which to make his selections,” said show co-chairs Alan Newberg and Cindy Duvall.

Attendees and collectors will find a museum quality show of work in a wide range of media and sizes including sculptures, paintings, fiber art, jewelry and photography and more.

Local artists selected to participate are Erica Iseminger, Chimacum; Roger Travis, Nordland; Kevin Imper, Port Ludlow; and from Port Townsend, Sandra Arnold, Peter Bonyun, Philip Carrico, Brian Goodman, Pat Herkal, Joyce Hester, Harold Nelson, Mitchel Osborne, Scott Pascoe, Kim Simonelli, Suzzanne Stangel, Linda Tilley, Fred Videon, Trevor Warren, Richard Jesse Watson, Margaret Woodcock, and Stephen Yates.

D’Alessandro narrowed the selection down to 135 artworks, and will choose the recipients of various cash awards from the actual artwork after it has been installed in the gallery.

The awards include the Best of Show ($1,500) and three Best of Category ($900), three second in category ($500), and three third in category awards ($250).

Additional prizes are chosen by their sponsors and include a $1,000 Best of Kitsap Award sponsored by the Poulsbo-based Cultural Arts Foundation NW, purchase awards sponsored by local businesses and art collectors ($2,550), and the People’s Choice Award ($300).

The People’s Choice Award will be determined by the votes of attendees during the five-week run of the show.

The 2021 CVG Show continues until Friday, Feb. 26.

At the end of the show at 6 p.m.
Feb. 26, there will be a short online presentation of the winner of the People’s Choice Award followed by a gallery talk titled “Art in Bremerton: Then, Now & Tomorrow” by noted local artist Amy Burnett.

Collective Visions Gallery is at 331 Pacific Ave. and is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.
