The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help identifying two suspects allegedly connected to a recent burglary at Fat Smitty’s restaurant.
Two men, officials said, broke into Fat Smitty's in Discovery Bay and proceeded to take “several dollar bills from the establishment” at about 3 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13.
Fat Smitty's famously encourages customers to personalize bills and tack them to the walls and ceiling of the establishment, with the currency later being periodically collected and donated to charity.
“As such,” police said in a recent online post, “a store owner in Poulsbo recognized the currency as coming from Fat Smitty's and contacted law enforcement when two customers entered his store on Nov. 16 using the dollar bills.”
The sheriff’s office is attempting to identify the customers, who are being called “persons of interest” in connection to the crime, based on security camera footage.
Those with information should message police through Facebook, call 360-344-9779, or submit an anonymous tip at www.co.jefferson.wa.us.
