Jaman is a friend and has qualities I value | Letter to the editor

Julie Jaman is a friend of mine. I’ve known her for more than 40 years so I know a thing or two about her.

Julie takes citizenship seriously. On community issues, she investigates all the info she can get, mulls it over, and arrives at her own point of view. When necessary, she clearly expresses her view to community leaders in positions of authority regarding the issue, and frequently offers her view to the wider community through letters to the editor at The Leader. For her troubles, she has sometimes been labeled an “uppity woman.” Yes, you heard me right.

Julie is an uppity woman, and thanks heavens for that! While I don’t always agree with her thoughtful views, I always find them worth consideration, and I have the utmost respect for her as a thoughtful citizen.

Another thing about Julie is that I have never experienced her being unkind in her views or actions. Never.

Thoughtful and kind and outspoken; qualities I value in my friend. And regarding the current turmoil about the trans-event at the pool, shame on the YMCA for failing to do a kind and thoughtful job of bringing a new, trans staff person into the women’s very, very, very un-private locker room. They deserved better, all of them.
