The incident reported last week about the Redmen Cemetery really makes me upset. I went to school with Helen Gunn’s brother who graduated in 1961 and [attended] his funeral service with his family.
These no-good workers who ravaged the cemetery with little or no concern, need to be jailed along with their supervisor. The damage they created with little or no concern to the families who have relatives buried there will have to suffer the pain of seeing a consecrated ground torn like it means little or nothing to get money for a tree. They didn’t even take it all. Instead they took the cream, damaged headstones and threw away markers. Hopefully city hall will discuss this and have them jailed and fined and made to clean up their mess. Also, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to take their equipment away to be used for anything that requires money to correct any loss that has to be paid by the injured parties.
It is beyond me how someone could do this destruction. To say I am appalled, puts it lightly.
I’m very sorry for Helen and any other families that have to feel the pain. I’m happy that when my wife died I had her cremated. Her ashes went to Port Townsend Bay. I know she’s happy.
