Infant dead in wake of kidnapping case

After an extensive search that began last Friday afternoon, police Saturday morning recovered the body of an infant child near Kah Tai Lagoon and arrested a 37-year-old Port Townsend man on suspicion of kidnapping his infant son.

The man, Jordan T. Sorensen, was initially uncooperative and believed to be attempting to evade police officers. He eventually led law enforcement inside of Kah Tai Park, where the infant was found deceased. The child was less than one month old, according to authorities.

Sorensen was originally wanted for questioning relating to the kidnapping, as well as criminal mistreatment and reckless endangerment. Law enforcement said Sorensen was unable to provide the “basic necessities of life for the child.”

As of Jan. 22, officers and deputies were working to process the scene. The cause of death remains under investigation, and law enforcement said there is no active threat to the public.

Sorensen made his first appearance in court on Monday morning, where a judge set bail at $200,000. According to state records, Sorenson has prior felony and misdemeanor convictions for burglary, forgery, theft, and possession of stolen property.
