Dance on the dock

Square dancers are invited to take it outside for the September Quimper Grange Square Dance and Social, which is set for 8-11 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 9 at the end of Taylor Street in downtown Port Townsend during Wooden Boat Festival weekend.

The free event features caller Gabe Strand, with music provided by The Dry Hoppers; both caller and band hail from Seattle.

Partners and experience are not necessary. All dances are taught, and all ages are welcome.

Shop Crafts by the Dock

The 46th annual Crafts by the Dock Fair takes place over Wooden Boat Festival weekend, Sept. 9-10, in downtown Port Townsend at Madison and Water streets. Hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sunday.

The fair features a variety of juried arts and crafts, including furniture, jewelry, rugs, paintings, fish-print rubbings, felted clothing, painted silk scarves, steel knives, pottery and more.

The event is organized by the Port Townsend Arts Guild, a self-supporting nonprofit arts organization offering college scholarships to local students majoring in the arts. For information about selling art at one of the guild’s fairs, visit porttownsendartsguild.org.

Make art Sept. 9

Port Townsend artists Suzanne Jones and Adrianna Santiago invite people of all ages to paint, create poetry, play music, make sun prints and more at an intergenerational art event set for noon-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The event is to be located in the courtyard between the Petals florist shop on Lawrence Street in uptown PT. Supplies are provided.

Do-si-do with Rhody O’s

The Rhody O’s Square Dance Club offers beginning square dance lessons starting at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the Gardiner Community Center, 980 Old Gardiner Road. Lessons continue through winter, with graduation in March. For more info, contact Trish Gaine at 360-683-2409.

Art at Owl Sprit

During the months of September and October, Owl Sprit Cafe is featuring art by three local women.

Mary O’Shaughnessy moved to Port Townsend in 2014 from Chicago. Her collages at Owl Sprit incorporate her handmade paper, and are inspired by her walks at the fort.

Carol Long retired from teaching for the PT School District in 2001. Her painting “Portal Rhincodontidae” is an abstraction of swimming with 40-foot whale sharks in the Sea of Cortez.

Janet Carter is a former Jungian-oriented psychotherapist and horse whisperer who works in many mediums.
