Church seeks pianist

First Church of Christ, Scientist, seeks a pianist for weekly Sunday services at the church, located at 275 Umatilla St.

During a service, the pianist would play a 10-minute prelude, three hymns, a short offertory, a five-minute postlude, as well as accompany the church’s soloist. Services are scheduled for 10-11 a.m. Musicians are expected to arrive at 9:30 p.m. Salary is $80 a service, which includes practice time with soloist. ‘Angel of the Arts’ nominations due Dec. 31

The Port Townsend Arts Commission is seeking nominations for the 2016 Angel of the Arts.

According to submission guidelines, nominees may be a gifted performer, a great artist, a producer of fantastic shows, a dedicated cast member, an accompanist or someone who does unrecognized but essential tasks, such as setting up, hanging artwork, serving at receptions or cleaning up after shows. The annual public award event is scheduled for Friday, March 10.

Nomination forms are available at Port Townsend City Hall, clerk’s desk, second floor, 250 Madison St.; or online at cityofpt.us/ptarts.

Perez selected as 2017 PTFF Film Fellow

Filmmaker Andrew Perez has been selected by the Port Townsend Film Festival as its 2017 Film Fellow. A director, actor and screenwriter, Perez is the fourth recipient of a festival fellowship, according to a press release.

Perez is to begin his fellowship Dec. 26 to work on his second screenplay, and is to stay at a private residence in Port Townsend. “I’m truly excited to return to Port Townsend,” said Perez, “where my experience screening ‘Bastards y Diablos’ and performing ‘The Aliens’ [at Key City Theatre] was a true highlight of 2016 to me. The entire weekend there, I felt dizzy with creative energy, so I cannot wait to spend time harnessing that energy into a brand-new screenplay.”

“My Scientology Movie,” for which Perez received critical praise for his role as the Church of Scientology’s controversial leader, David Miscavige, opens in theaters March 3.

The festival offers an extended residency to one filmmaker each year, thanks to the vision of the festival’s board of directors and generosity of the community.

“The festival believes that support of artists, as they create, is as important as screening their work,” said PTFF executive director Janette Force in a press release.

“Creating a film fellowship program is just the sort of growth that we hoped to attain when the festival began 17 years ago. Independent film voices are more essential than ever before.”
