‘Golfers alternative’ deserves consideration | Letter to the editor

WHOA! Isn’t it time to take a few deep breaths and hit the pause button on the Port Townsend Golf Course stakeholder scoping process?

Apparently, the plan has been whittled down to three alternatives, at least one of which could compromise the course so severely as to effectively end its existence as such.

However, there is a beautifully produced presentation of a plan that would benefit all of the stakeholders. Let’s call it the “golfers’ plan” and it includes compromises from golfers, benefitting all the other stakeholders and would allow the course to continue as such. Many non-golfers also love having our own little Central Park, and we would happily continue to so, as well.

All of us stakeholders, including the contracted consultants, and the City Council need to give the “golfers alternative” plan the respect and thoughtful consideration it deserves, and this needs to happen before a final decision is made that could effectively doom Port Townsend’s sweet little municipal golf course.
