The May 4th Leader article pegs the total cost for the PDA Fort Worden Glamping nonsense at $1.9 million ($1.3 million already spent plus $600,000 or more for completion), and then ongoing maintenance costs.

For this, we’d get 24 glampsites at a cost of $80,000 per glampsite, all for visitors who like to pretend they’re camping without having to pitch a tent on the actual earth.

From my point of view, glamping defeats the whole purpose of camping, and does so at a ridiculous price.

For a little perspective: The cost of only ONE glampsite could help someone make a down payment to buy a house, in Hadlock maybe. Or it could pay someone’s $1,500/month rent for FOUR AND A HALF YEARS.

Though $1.9 million is a monster amount of money to waste, I think it’s already been wasted. The only way to make it worse is to throw good money after bad and invest further in this deluded scheme pandering to visitors who aren’t willing to simply go camping.

If you don’t want to camp, get a room for heaven’s sake!
