On the Friday before Thanksgiving, Susan Cook was hard at work in the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church kitchen, making gravy for their upcoming Thanksgiving meal.
“This is a huge batch of gravy,” Cook said. “It’s like 16 huge turkey wings.”
This is the ninth year Just Soup at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is hosting Just Soup – Thanksgiving from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 21.
Cook said nearly 150 people from the community come each year to feast on homemade pies, turkey, stuffing, real gravy, mashed potatoes and more.
“Everything is made from scratch,” Cook said, explaining all the pies are made by church members, while all of the cooking, preparation and serving is done by a dedicated set of volunteers from the church and the community.
While Cook expected to have all the volunteers they needed by Nov. 19, those interested in learning more about volunteering or attending can call 360-385-0770.
St. Paul’s is at the corner of Jefferson and Tyler streets in uptown Port Townsend.
