Free no-pass day for Washington State Parks planned

Posted

Access to Washington State Parks will be free on Saturday, Sept. 26, in recognition of National Public Lands Day.

Day-use visitors will not need a Discover Pass to visit state parks by vehicle, officials with the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission have announced.

National Public Lands Day is coordinated by the National Environmental Education Foundation.

Typically, events on National Public Lands Day bring out thousands of volunteers to help restore and improve public lands around the country, officials said.

This year, with concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, many public land sites will not be able to host large, in-person events, however.

People can check out the NPLD website at www.neefusa.org/npld to find “More Ways to Connect to Nature,” this year’s theme.
