My friend Art Frank is running for sheriff because he loves and understands our community.

Art knows we deserve better than a sheriff’s office that too often fails to respond to 911 calls and leaves our most pressing concerns unresolved. Art can and will provide the stronger leadership the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office needs to respond to every call, reduce property crime, and more compassionately support residents affected by domestic violence, substance abuse, mental health crises, and homelessness.

This race matters to everyone in our county — including residents of Port Townsend. County deputies already provide significant policing within town limits in relief of our short-staffed Port Townsend Police Department. The sheriff’s office provides security at our county courthouse. During a county-wide emergency, the sheriff coordinates the law enforcement response with Port Townsend police.

For these reasons, every voter has a vested interest in professionalizing and modernizing our sheriff’s office, and Art is the only candidate committed to that mission. Port Townsend residents–as much as our neighbors outside the town limits–need Art Frank to reform the sheriff’s office.

A highly decorated officer with 43 years of distinguished service, Art is determined to introduce best practices to the sheriff’s office: proper data collection and analysis, more professional evidence collection and handling to close cases more reliably, development of a strategic plan for continuous improvement, and full accreditation by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs with all deliberate speed.

Reliable law enforcement is the cornerstone of a safe community. Art has the integrity, knowledge, experience, and determination to ensure the sheriff’s office responds to and resolves the concerns of all community stakeholders, including our most vulnerable populations.
