East Jefferson firefighters were called to a boat fire roughly three miles off of Paradise Bay Friday after a person in Port Ludlow reported visible flames coming from a vessel on Hood Canal.

A citizen called in the boat fire just after 1 p.m. June 23. The pleasure craft was found to be around 400 yards from Foulweather Bluff near Hansville.

Nearby boaters were able to safely take on the two passengers of the boat and begin firefighting efforts, according to East Jefferson Fire Rescue.

East Jefferson Fire Rescue was toned to the fire at 1:06 p.m. Friday and responded as mutual aid with the Coast Guard, North Kitsap Fire, and Suquamish Tribal Police.

Marine 31, East Jefferson Fire Rescue’s 24-foot fire boat, responded with a crew of four.

The 30-foot boat was still burning as of 2 p.m. Friday.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, according to East Jefferson Fire Rescue.
