Environment is critical issue for Eisenhour | Letter to the editor

It has been great to see Heidi Eisenhour progress so successfully in her campaign for District 2 Jefferson County commissioner. As a longtime supporter I am glad that those who did not know her are getting introduced to the depth and breadth of her experience and qualifications.

While advocating for the environment has always been integral to her personal and professional accomplishments, she is also a strong negotiator with a real world understanding of local economic elements that must be maintained to keep our citizens working and damage mitigated.

Given the sizable portion of the county budget that the commissioners oversee which is attributable to law enforcement, Heidi’s outreach before the Primary Election to Sheriff Joe Nole and others involved with delivering public services is commendable. She is adept at setting budgetary priorities and matching policy to the needs and desires of the community. Her recommendation to reassign a portion of the budget to hire a “Navigator” to deploy non-lethal resources as situations evolve through the sheriff’s department is a great example of the pragmatic, consensus-driven deliberation we can expect from Heidi.

Complexity is hard. Heidi’s background of having worked in many positions across a variety of businesses and organizations over her career has prepared her to deal well with it. The adaptation of the Wooden Boat Festival to a virtual event this year under Heidi’s guidance is another great example of ways she gets involved with the community and keeps things moving forward.
