Emergency funding provides mental health support

As of April 17, 275 people have donated to the Jefferson County COVID Emergency Response Fund for a total of $273,108.

The COVID Emergency Fund Grantmaking Team met for the third time on April 17, 2020 and awarded a weekly total of $82,350 to the following organizations:

  • St. Vincent de Paul: $15,000 to provide financial assistance to people who have lost their jobs as a result of the pandemic for things such as utilities, laundry and transportation.
  • Jefferson County Immigrant Rights Advocates: $15,000 to provide rental assistance to people who have lost their jobs in industries such as shellfish and salal picking.
  • Bayside Transitional Housing and Services: $18,550 to increase capacity to provide transitional housing and support services to 10 new individuals and families.
  • Jumping Mouse Children’s Center: $13,450 to purchase the technology and equipment needed for therapists to provide online counseling sessions for 65 children and their families.
  • Jefferson Healthcare Foundation: $15,600 to ensure mental health support remains available to oncology patients who must be isolated during the pandemic.
  • Camp Beausite: $4,750 to provide alternate at-home programming to developmentally disabled adults who would otherwise have participated in the camp’s weekend and summer programs, all of which were canceled due to the pandemic.

This brings the total amount awarded to date from the COVID Emergency Response Fund to $197,060.

Grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis and evaluated each Friday by the grantmaking team. The money is then distributed to the organizations the following Monday.
