Election Letter: Rental rates could rise if Proposition 1 passes

Posted

I am against Proposition 1 because I think that in the end, it will hurt the very people that was intended to help. We own low-income rentals in Jefferson County, and if Proposition 1 passes, we will have to increase the rent to our tenants.

We have a very low profit margin now so that we can charge as low a rent as possible, but if our costs go up, we will have to pass that on to the tenants by a rent increase. I know that we are not the only owners in this situation.

All over Jefferson County, owners are going to have to raise rents to the very people that this proposition says that it is to benefit. The proposition will also cause additional financial stress on anyone who owns property of any kind. Please vote no on Proposition 1.
