Discovery of hundreds of fentanyl pills in Cadillac SUV prompts arrest

A 37-year-old Black Diamond man was arrested in Port Ludlow last week for  possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance after a deputy found him passed out in a Cadillac Escalade that had a plastic bag of several hundred fentanyl pills in the door.

Ross Alan Heinzinger made his first appearance in Jefferson County Superior Court Friday via a video link from the county jail.

Prosecutors allege Heinzinger was found hunched over the steering wheel of the Cadillac as it was parked near the Village Store in Port Ludlow just after 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8.

A deputy found the Escalade taking up two parking spaces and the vehicle was still running.

An officer woke up the driver, later identified as Heinzinger, and the deputy could see burnt tin foil — apparently left over from smoking fentanyl — in the SUV.

A loaded handgun was found on Heinzinger.

Heinzinger, who had been convicted of a felony in 2010, told a deputy that he had his firearm rights restored but did not have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

The bag of pills was later determined to weigh 80 grams. A digital scale was also found in the center console of the vehicle, according to court documents.

A passenger in the vehicle was also found unconscious.

Ashley Nichole Lewis, 35, of Black Diamond, was also arrested for possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance.

During their Friday appearances in superior court, Judge Keith Harper told Heinzinger and Lewis they would be arraigned on the felony charges Friday, Dec. 16.

Harper agreed that both could be released from jail Dec. 9 on their personal recognizance.

Conviction of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance can result in a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
