Crabtucky Derby set to return digitally

Posted

The Crabtucky Derby will again be held this year, albeit digitally, per a recent announcement by Northwest Maritime Center executive director Jake Beattie.

The pandemic forced the cancellation of Salish Sea Expeditions’ Seafood Bash in the spring, he noted, “but we are taking this annual fundraiser’s most popular feature, and going virtual!”

The Crabtucky Derby is slated to take place Tuesday, Oct. 27; Wednesday, Oct. 28; and Thursday, Oct. 29.

“Race a (toy) crab, raise a (virtual) paddle, celebrate with our community, and help raise critical funds to continue providing youth with hands-on learning experiences through Salish Sea Expeditions and Northwest Maritime Center’s education programs,” he said.

“Salish and the Maritime Center are better together, and we ask our community to stand beside us as we continue to harness the powerful lessons the sea teaches us to inspire curiosity, courage, and empathy and build a courageous and resilient world,” Beattie said.

More details are forthcoming; visit www.salish.org for the latest updates.
